The Surface Pro 7 retains a more traditional Intel architecture that has proven itself, with either an Intel Core i3-1005G1 chip, Intel Core i5-1035G4 or Core i7-1065G7. This processor will come with 8 or 16 GB of RAM and removable storage ranging from 128 to 512 GB. It is based on the Snapdragon 8CX, and promises performance equivalent to a low-power 8th generation Intel Core chip. The Surface Pro X integrates for the first time a Microsoft SQ1 chip developed with Qualcomm. This is the most important point to differentiate the two devices. We just have a diagonal change : 13 inches for the Surface Pro X, and 12.3 inches for the Surface Pro 7. The screen technology does not change between the two devices : it is an IPS LCD "PixelSense" with a density of 267 pixels per inch and a ratio of 3: 2. It is therefore deadlocked on the USB-A classic, the case is too thin anyway, but also on the microSD player and the 3.5 mm jack. We do not find this choice on the Surface Pro X which is satisfied with 2 USB-C ports and a Surface Connect port. The Surface Pro 7 replaces its old DisplayPort for a USB-C port, but retains the rest of its connectors : Classic USB-A, Surface Connect for power, 3.5mm jack, and microSD drive. On the scale, we have something identical with 775 grams for both devices, without the keyboard or the stylus.

More specifically, the Surface Pro X incorporates a 13- inch screen in a box of 287 x 208 mm where the Surface Pro 7 uses a 12.3- inch screen for a 292 x 201 mm case. Indeed, the Surface Pro X has a brand new design with screen with refined edges, and a frame also leaner (7.3 mm against 8.5 mm for Surface Pro 7).

This is immediately obvious when you compare the two devices: the Surface Pro 7 and Pro X do not offer the same design.
